Eggs, Bunnies, and Jesus

Or a Bilby if you are in Australia as they do not like rabbits here.

There are many jokes as to why we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus with chocolate eggs and bunnies.

Well, let us take a cliff note look at the history of this day:

Often you will hear people trying to discredit Christianity by saying, “oh, all you did was replace the spring harvest festival”, well, that is only half true… you see…
Christianity is based on Judaism. Many of you will often hear me say that a truly well educated Christian, is nearly the same as a bacon eating Jew.

Easter, the resurrection happened the Sunday after Good Friday. Good Friday is based off of when Passover is. Passover is scheduled on the Jewish calendar which happens to be a lunar calendar. That means, the Christian spring holy days take their que from the Jewish spring holy days, which take their que from the moon. Got that part so far?

So where did the accusation that we are just covering up some pagan holiday come from?

Well… there actually where other holidays in the same time period celebrated by other people. The most common one, was the Fertility festival, this is also where the tradition of “love in the air” at spring time came from.

I’m sure you’ve heard the expression, “F^(< like bunnies”. Well, yes, there is meaning behind it, when God said “be fruitful and multiply” they took their job very seriously. Another common symbol of fertility back in the day (and even in modern times) is of course… the egg!

Passover and the various other spring time celebrations where celebrate in different locations by different people. Then of course, the Roman Empire was established in the area of Isreal, and God had his time here on Earth, then Easter was celebrated. But of course… like what I told you all happened with Christ’s Mass, the new converts to Christianity from the other religions still wanted their fun. And so, the symbols where readopted as symbolic of “NEW life” and kept up to the modern day when companies like Cadbury and Hallmark could pounce on the opportunity to make an extra buck.

There is SOOO much more to the story of how Easter has been corrupted, but, like I said, I would cliff note it.

Enjoy your chocolaty orgy symbols while celebrating Christ resurrection from wiping away our sins : )

Hehehehe
