De Gama, Columbus, Cortez, Cook, and Belton
Another day of exploration. We went back to the Blue Lake, but this time actually took the guided tour and got near the surface of the lake.
We then went to a neighboring and less impressive Green Lake.
Then came the exciting part…
OCEAN!
Was beautiful… oh so so beautiful…
It was low tide, and so I made a little game, I walked out as far into the ocean as possible while maintaining dry feet. As you can see… I made it a fair ways out:
After our visit to the Ocean was over, we began driving back inland to Mt. Gambier, where we were staying. We did however make a stop at a volcano quite similar to the Blue Lake, just… well, without the blue lake in it. It wasn’t the easiest hike I’ve ever had, but then again, it certainly was not the hardest. The 5 of us with Y Chromosome made it to the top, and once we got there, there was no doubt in our minds that it was totally worth every difficult step.
It = amazing
So beautiful up there, and being able to look at the other side of the rim and see Mt. Gambier in the distance and then turn around, and see the Ocean consume the south-west by west horizon. It was good seeing the Ocean on my west side again :)
On our way back to the van, I saw a camper with one of my new favorite slogans:
Now, before any of you go off saying “that doesn’t rhyme!” pronounce it like an Aussie, and it does, in other words, skip the “R”s in it, for example, “Mt. Gambier” is in Aussie “Mt. Gambia” I don’t know why, it just is ok.
We then thought it would be a good idea to re-visit the sink hole from the night before, this time in day light.
I decided to be adventurous and jump from level to level, only nearly breaking a few bones a couple times, 90% of my landings where near perfect. After that, we went back to where we were staying. By this point, my body was fairly upset with me at all I’d put it through for the day, so, rather than go back to Mt. Gambier, I decided to stay behind in the room, and maybe even try sparking a conversation with the cute girl in room next to me.
Fail.
She had apparently checked out. But, I did get to rest, and where as the rest of the family went up this death march up a hill with a 70 grade on it, I got to recover, and watch a movie in Italian. Jan did however make their trip worth it, by getting a pretty awesome shot of the sun and landscape (actually, she got quite a few, but this is my favorite):
Tomorrow:
MORE OCEAN! :)
