Life on the Streets: Day 4 – Part 4

So just a few minutes after getting settled and tucked in for a bit of sleep, a worker walked by, “Oi mate! You alright?”

Pull off my beanie and open my eyes to end up looking in the sun, “ya… ya… just catchin some sleep”

“Too easy, alright then”

And he walks off.

Though not at all mad or anything, I decided to take that as a que to find a new spot.

Walked around Opera House to look in more cracks, which I will do tonight, then went through garden gate. Behind one of the portable café stands, on the other side of the fence is a little dead end walk way with two benches. I take the one at the end. It is warming to the point that I take off my outer jacket and use it as a pillow but leave beanie on. Also use this opportunity to air out feet.

Hurray for 3 hours!

I’m not sure if I like waking up like I have been. All at once! The way Christopher Moore describes the way vampires wake up, all senses hit the ground running from the half second before you open your eyes. Then my quick rate mental checklist that I go through in about 2-3 seconds,

Where am I?
Who’s around me?
Did I want to be here?
Any bogies or all friendlies?
What hurts?
Can I move everything?
Anything missing?

I go through that every time I wake up now, not even contiously, nor always in any one order.

Well, the sun is shining, the temperature is up.

I think the AM BM beckons me, then to start trying to beg to tourist.

Got myself situated. There are so few people here. A group of French are blocking people’s view of me and my sign.

When I was washing my hands, I of course looked in the mirror… right eye still twitching. Really starting to irritate me.

This Indian woman (dot not feather) is speaking as loud as a latina.

Debating the worthiness of current endeavor.

#1 I think maybe Masar was right and I will do better with a different sign

#2 this is somewhat a money based project, where as I could go hunt down Marvin or start a conversation with some other homeless person

#3 it is not even lunch, should be patient at least till say 1:30

Not a single person. This sign sucks. Plus I’m not avidly selling it. I have this group crowding me on my right. I think they are Armenian because a lot of the guys remind me of an old scout friend of mine, Ohan.

What’s with you white people and not being able to say, “no thanks”? Why does it always have to be “rudely make a face and pretend the question never happened”?
